PICTIS is a unique combination of high speed image analysis with gentle dry dispersion by the built-in gravity disperser, optimised for at-line or on-line applications with sensitive or fragile dry particles;

Technical specifications and dimensions.
PICTIS combines the high speed image analysis of QICPIC with the gentle dry gravity disperser GRADIS/L in a single robust instrument, specially designed for at-line or on-line applications in the process environment. PICTIS is directly operating with manual or automatic feeds, e.g. by external robots, delivering samples to the inlet hopper of the VIBRI/L-GMP dosing unit.
The particles are fed at constant mass flow by the integrated dosing unit into the gravity disperser. Here, the particles are accelerated by gravity of earth and gently dispersed by particle-to-particle and particle-to-wall collisions at impact plates of the fall shaft of the disperser.
Like QICPIC it combines well established with innovative techniques: A dry gravity disperser (well proven in many HELOS applications); a pulsed light source with an extremely short exposure time of less than 1 ns which enables clear cut images from fastest particles created by the dispersion process (100m/s would result in only 100 nm of motion blur); a high speed camera suitable to measure up to 450 images per second for high statistical relevance of the measured results and short analysis times.
PICTIS covers particle sizes between 5 µm and 10 mm in three measuring ranges. The primary measurement data are stored in 100000 primary classes and can be evaluated in individually definable formats. Pre-defined sets of size classes allow an easy adoption to existing measurement specifications.
The WINDOX software offers simultaneous calculations of all relevant size and shape characteristics. A particle gallery in combination with multiple filter functions supports the evaluation of specific results, even if very large amounts of 10 million particles or more are stored.
PICTIS fulfils the security requirements of the FDA and is compliant to 21 CFR Rule 11.

As PICTIS, operating at up to 450 fps, collects up to 450 Mbytes of data per second, even the compressed data are too much to be transferred directly into the control room.
Thus, the PICTIS control box contains a powerful embedded PC with a 2 GHz Pentium M processor, 100 Gbytes of harddisk for acquisition and data storage.
This PC is linked by a 1 Gbit network to a second (as an option also embedded) PC equipped with a very powerful Dual Core Processor. This is used for calculation of the particle size and shape information. So short cycle times are guaranteed even at particle numbers >106 particles per measurement.
A simple industrial TCP/IP network operating at 10/100 MHz is used for communication and data transfer.
WLAN 802.11a/b/g communication is available as an option.
PICTIS is fully integrated in and supported by the latest WINDOX software. The standard content of delivery contains 2 licenses, one each for the measuring and evaluating PC.
