Split Client Server Installation of WINDOX 5.1.1.0

WINDOX has been designed as a client-server software system whereby both options, client and server on the same PC or on different PCs are possible. Unfortunately, WINDOX 5.1.1.0 has two bugs which make additional measures necessary if client and server shall be installed on different PCs.

1. Both, client and server software on have to be installed on all client and server PCs participating in the WINDOX database.
2. Using the Windows registry editor, REGEDIT.EXE, on every client PC a key named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SYMPATEC\WINDOX5\DBServer and an entry field below this key named IBServerHost of type "string" must be inserted. The Windows network name of the server PC is entered in this field.

After these special measures, the regular set up of the database is continued on the server PC as described in the online Help using the DB Administration and User Administration programs.

Every WINDOX client software is connected to the server PC using the Program, "Server Selection" an the client PC, as described in the online Help.
