Particle size analysis of suspensions and emulsions with the wet disperser QUIXEL/L mounted in the measuring zone of the laser diffraction sensor HELOS/BR for fast measurement cycles of even very coarse and dense materials.
Technical specifications and dimensions.
QUIXEL/L is the advanced wet dispersing system suitable for particle size analysis of all kinds of suspensions and emulsions in the size range of 0.1 µm up to 3.5 mm. Its innovative, tubeless design enables very fast measuring cycles. Even high density particles such as 3 mm ball bearing beads made from stainless steel are safely transported in water through the flow cell without the need for using special liquids of high viscosity.
QUIXEL/L is a closed loop wet disperser. It comprises a vertical stainless steel basin for up to 1 liter of suspension. On the top of the basin an overflow ring chute is connected to the draining hose. This is a safety function but can be used in specific applications to gently dilute the suspension in order to lower the concentration to the requirements of the sensor. The removable glass lid avoids evaporation e.g. of organic solvents.
The basin shaft is equipped with two liquid level sensors for 300 ml and 1000 ml content. Any level at or between these levels can be used for bubble free operation.
The wet dispersion process is supported by a built-in ultrasonication unit. The sonication of the basin is adjustable by software from 0 to 60 W in 1% steps. The piezo activator is driven by a perfect sinusoidal voltage reducing the thermal losses and thus the heating of the fluid to a minimum. The sonication is regulated to constant output power for the best reproducible dispersion under all filling levels and conditions.
On the bottom a velocity controlled centrifugal pump is used for gentle transport of the suspension through the flow cuvette. As the pump bottom can be lowered in total, a large cross-section becomes available for draining by gravity. Even high viscose liquids can be drained within seconds. In combination with fast filling and cleaning this allows for short measuring cycle times down to 1 minute/measurement.
The flow cuvette is flow optimised and available with two gap width, 2 mm and 6 mm. The cuvette type is automatically identified by RFID. It is released and fixed electrically. So taking out the cuvette for cleaning is a simple task.
The operation is fully automated. All parameters such as pumping speed etc. are controlled by software or manually by the display and operational panel. The glass cover makes the display resistant against most solvents.
A temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the suspension. For keeping the suspension temperature at a higher level, a built-in temperature control and heating resistors of 0 to 60W are available as an option. For full temperature control an external heating/cooling device is supported. A built-in heat-exchanger with in and out connector for the heating/cooling liquid in combination with an RS232C interface for temperature control of the external device is available as an option.
An interface to external filling, rinsing and draining e.g. via LIQIBACK is fully supported.
Special top-lids with automated additive supply are available as an option.
